Job Introduction

The Step Into Tech training course is the ideal opportunity for women wanting to get into Software Engineering.  This immersive course provides the core skills needed to kick start a career in the sector. 

Ideal for women returning to work after a break, college leavers, career changers; anyone that is motivated for a career in software but feels they need the core skills first.

Main Responsibilities

This 14 week programme delivered in partnership with tech returners will incorporate a full immersive week followed by evening sessions covering front end and back end development, ending on a project delivery of your choice. The curriculum will deliver the most up to date technologies with practical applications, all of which will be underpinned by core personal development sessions for your success.


Immersive week: An overview of the tech industry, understanding the fundamentals of computer science, developing problem solving skills.

Front end – to include HTML, CSS, responsive design and an introduction to React

Back end – Introduction to cloud (AWS), databases and backend technologies

Project – Have the ability to apply learning to personally create a project application

All underpinned by ongoing personal development

The course will start on 19th November and will start with a full week of 10am - 4pm, followed by Thursday evenings 7pm - 9.30pm

There will be continued support throughout the course, building a community, support by BBC mentors

Are you the right candidate?

You must be motivated for a career in Software Engineering. This course will be challenging, but you will get the support needed throughout. You'll need to be committed to the training, and be able to manage your time to complete the pre-course work.

There are limited places available on this course. You must be able to demonstrate on your application and in the assessment that you are determined, motivated, have good time management skills, and be an excellent problem solver. The technical side we will teach you!

This course is for women looking for their first step into a technical career. Therefore the course will not be for you if you already have a experience in the course elements (through recent work experience or through a qualification).

The course consists of a one week 'immersive week' starting on 19th November, followed by Thursday evening courses at 7pm - 9.30pm. The course will be held at BBC Media City - Salford.
