Job Introduction

The Religion & Ethics department at BBC Radio Wales has an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced content producer to join as a permanent member of this small, committed, award winning team.

As you'll see from the video above, BBC Wales is about to move to a fabulous new building in the heart of Cardiff and adjacent to our central station. We’ll be sharing space with many media and cultural organisations  and will be at the centre of the city’s new creative hub.

Main Responsibilities

Based in Cardiff, the Religion & Ethics department produces a range of some 300, live and pre-recorded programmes for Radio Wales and Radio 4 every year. These include ‘Sunday Worship’, ‘Daily Service’ and ‘Prayer for the Day’ on Radio 4; and the award winning religious affairs programme ‘All Things Considered’, worship strand ‘Celebration’, scripted talks ‘Wednesday Word’ and ‘Weekend Word’ and seasonal programmes at Christmas and Easter for BBC Radio Wales. We are looking for a producer who can work across the range of output.

Are you the right candidate?

  • The ability to generate ideas for worship and other religious programmes and follow through to the production of high quality output.
  • A demonstrable knowledge of the world of religion.
  • The experience of working on radio news and current affairs, religion, music or feature programmes.
  • A proven editorial judgement.
  • Highly developed planning and organising skills with the ability to manage several areas of work at one time, prioritising and delivering consistently to deadline.

About the BBC

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are very important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below. You’ll be asked questions relating to them as part of your application for this role.

The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants.  Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
