Job Introduction

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire is a successful station at the Centre of the UK City of Culture 2021 with a mix of award winning presenters providing news, sport, entertainment and conversation to a diverse audience in our region.

We’re looking for an experienced digital and radio Journalist to join our team to help us reach out to new and young audiences – delivering first class journalism and producing compelling and entertaining online content predominantly for our social media feeds as well as new digital platforms including BBC Sounds and of course on-air material for the radio station

Main Responsibilities

You will be part of our team, contributing new ideas for delivering content for our social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter as well as BBC News online and BBC Sounds. The focus will be content which encourages engagement on social media – particularly Facebook. You will be expected to have a thorough understanding of how to maximise and measure engagement, a great sense of what makes a good local story and tell it in a way that makes it shareable. You’ll possess the skills needed to film and edit digital shorts and understand when and how to publish on Facebook. You will work within a team on a shift system basis and will be expected to be confident in making editorial decisions on breaking stories as well as having the ability to generate your own original stories and ideas. You will work closely with news and programme teams, so that stories are delivered both online and on the radio with maximum impact across the day.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have significant experience in daily news journalism, proven writing ability, a great radio voice and technique, good IT skills and a clear vision of how to translate stories into lively multimedia material. The ability to integrate into a new team and draw effectively on the BBC’s wide range of resources is essential.

You must be able to think up creative treatments for stories and present ideas for original journalism. Additionally, we are looking for individuals who have a good understanding of our audiences - present and potential, radio and digital to ensure we accurately reflect all under-represented communities within the region. We want a person who is bursting with ideas and creative treatments and is passionate about making great content.

About the BBC

We don’t focus simply on what we do – we also care how we do it. Our values and the way we behave are important to us. Please make sure you’ve read about our values and behaviours in the document attached below.

Diversity matters at the BBC.  We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC – whether that’s to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles.  The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from all individuals.  And we promote flexible working opportunities where operational needs allow.
