Job Introduction

BBC StoryWorks is the BBC’s global creative content studio designed to strategically plan and facilitate innovative and high-quality custom content solutions for a wide spectrum of advertising clients.

In a predominantly digital design capacity, this role will develop and deliver design executions for digital content, presenting the best user experiences and visual direction, ensuring that it achieves the highest creative and editorial standards and appeals to commercial expectations.

With a regional focus and global remit this role reports to the Creative director UX & Design and forms part of a global team of designers distributed across offices around the world.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ideation - Develop creative solutions working collaboratively with content strategists and editors applying both UX skills and design principles to create top quality and pixel perfect designs.
  • Communication - Be the advocate for design principles and excellence, confidence in consulting and selling ideas and solutions.
  • Visual and art direction - working collaboratively with internal teams to establish a visual tone to support the narrative of storytelling efforts that both appeal to a BBC audience and compliments the client brand.
  • Deliver content experiences with consideration for technical feasibility and functionality, usability and accessibility of design deliveries on a variety of platforms.
  • Help produce collateral and materials to support sales efforts across commercial opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with and take direction from the Creative Director, other designers in global team and wider team members.
  • Support campaign distribution through creative efforts across traffic drivers and social media creative. Elevate this offering through creative ideas and solutions
  • Be accountable for the quality of your work and ensure it meets intended purposes.
  • Work with understanding of a client’s brand guidelines while adhering to BBC regulations and technical specifications.

Creative & communication:

  • Actively shares ideas and technical expertise across the team.
  • Reports to a Senior Designer or Creative Head.
  • Takes assignments from design lead (Senior Designer or Creative Head).
  • Keep track of own workload and makes effective use of time.
  • Keep appropriate people well informed of plans and progress.
  • Chooses best method of initiating, communicating and developing design idea.

Line management:

  • May mentor trainees and consult with more junior team members in other regions.

Are you the right candidate?

  • Be able to show a portfolio of strong graphic design work with digital as a key component demonstrating consideration for visual execution.
  • Show passion and consideration for fundamental design principles and the wider creative environment, enjoy solving UX problems as well as creating pixel-perfect designs.
  • Due to the nature of the role, you need to be able to demonstrate a variety of aesthetic approaches and diversity of design styles across creative portfolio.
  • A keen understanding of digital content led solutions within an editorial and commercial environment.
  • Strong user experience skills to develop wireframes and prototypes, where relevant for campaign series and design and spec digital products.
  • An understanding of wider user journeys and be able to inform content structure and IA.
  • Keep up to date with emerging industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Be innovative, a creative problem solver.
  • 3-5 years experience working within digital content or editorial teams, advertising agencies, creative studios, or publishing media organizations with an emphasis on designing for digital storytelling and narratives.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply design solutions across broad multi platform projects from complex digital executions to social media executions.
  • Experience navigating and communicating with various team members managing both internal and client stakeholders and pitching ideas to teams.
  • Independent ability to manage time and projects with skills to prioritize multiple asks and distribute own time to meet deadlines across teams and timezones.
  • Software skills including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, figma.
  • Animation skills a plus.
  • Must have solid experience designing responsively for web applying an understanding of HTML, CSS, frontend design styling, able to communicate effectively with developers.
